Can't open .SEM file? Are you wondering what it contains? On our site we will explain to you what this file is, what it is used for and what software opens the .SEM file.

What is a .SEM file extension?

.SEM file extension is created by Alpha Software. .SEM has been classified as Developer Files.

.SEM is Alpha Five Set Data Dictionary Memo File

Memo file created by Alpha Five, an IDE that enables users to develop Web, desktop, and mobile applications; contains data in the memo format, which is the same format used by .FPT and .DDM files; includes design information and code for any objects, reports, and forms attached to the set; created along with .SET and .SEX linked set files.

When two or more tables are linked together in Alpha Five, a set, which consists of a SEM, SET, and SEX file is created. These files make up the set data dictionary for the two or more tables linked together. The dictionary stores reports, forms, and any other objects linked to the set. SEM files should be kept with the SET and SEX Set Data Dictionary files in order for Alpha to find all of the elements and their pieces.

SET files are similar to .DBF files because they have a width limitation for how many characters can be held within a column. So Alpha Five creates a ten character field in SET files that references the memo location in the SEM file that contains the actual information.

NOTE: In 2013, Alpha Five became Alpha Anywhere.

Common SEM Filenames

[Name of your set].sem - When you create the set, the SEM file will be created with the same name as the related SET and SEX files.
