  • Make a copy of your company file using the previous version of QuickBooks for Mac. Select File → Back Up. Exit out of any previous versions of QuickBooks that are running.
  • Open QuickBooks 2013 for Mac. Select File → Open Company, choose your file then select Open. QuickBooks 2013 will upgrade your file and add a QB2013 extension. QuickBooks will also save your original file and rename it to show it as an older file.
  • NOTE: Previous versions of QuickBooks for Mac use the extensions .QB2012, .QB2011, .QB2010, etc. although these are called legacy in the QuickBooks 2013 release.
