What is an .MICRO file?

The micro file extension is most recently associated with infamous ransomware known as TeslaCrypt. In it's latest reincarnation this malicious software encrypts and locks users data and renames the extension to xxx, ttt and lately also micro.

It also leaves instructions and ransom demands in a special text file "HELP_RESTORE_FILES.txt" file found in affected folders.

This particular version of TeslaCrypt was discovered in January 2016.

How to solve problems with MICRO files

  • Associate the MICRO file extension with the correct application. On :
