What is a .XX file extension?

.XX file extension has been classified as Compressed Files.

.XX is XXEncoded File

7-bit ASCII text file encoded with XX encoding (XXEncoding), an encoding method that uses only alphanumeric characters, and the plus and minus signs.

XXEncoding was originally developed as a means to transfer files without them being corrupted, similar to UUEncoded (.UU) files. However, the format is seldom used today since most programs now support binary file transfers and do not require files to be encoded.

XXEncoded files may also use the .XXE file extension.
