What are .SRF files and how to open them?

Can't open .SRF file? Are you wondering what it contains? On our site we will explain to you what this file is, what it is used for and what software opens the .SRF file.

What is a .SRF file extension?

.SRF file extension is created by Microsoft. .SRF has been classified as Web Files.

.SRF is Server Response File

File used by Visual Studio .NET applications and processed by the ATL Server engine; may contain both static HTML and script tags that produce dynamically generated content when the page is loaded.

The file "login.srf" is commonly used by secure websites. It processes the user's username and password, sends a cookie identifying the user back to the browser, and redirects the user to the secure page.

An SRF page may also be called a "stencil" since it may contain tags that can be processed by CHtmlStencil.

File Type 2 LightWave Surface File
Developer by: NewTek Category: 3D Image Files Format: Binary

3D appearance file created by LightWave 3D, a modeling and rendering application; stores the options selected in the Surface Editor window, which is used to specify the surface appearance of a 3D object; used for saving and reusing presets.

Surface files save information such as color, shading, luminosity, specularity, glossiness, and transparency.

File Type 4 Surfer Project File
Developer by: Golden Software Category: Data Files Format: Binary

Project file created by Surfer, a contouring, gridding, and 3D surface mapping program; stores the data used to generate a visualization as well as the visualization itself; used by scientists and engineers to create visuals for analysis, publication, and presentation.

NOTE: SRF files are forward compatible among versions, but not backward compatible.

File Type 5 Smaart Spectrum File
Developer by: Rational Acoustics Category: Data Files

An SRF file is a data file created by Rational Acoustics Smaart, a program used by audio technicians and engineers to measure and analyze the acoustics of an environment. It contains a static "snapshot" of live spectrum measurements, which consist of a measurement signal (the output from a device) and an input signal used for reference. SRF files also store spectrum settings, such as the frequency scale of the graph, slice height of the spectrograph, and RTA display settings.

Spectrum measurements allow users to analyze one or more input channels. The measurements are displayed as a graph in real-time. These graphs can be captured by selecting Capture or Capture All in the Data bar in the "Spectrum" view. Captured spectrum measurements are saved in the SRF file.

By default, SRF files are placed in the following directory:

Documents\Smaart v8\Traces\Spectrum\Session Data

You can move them from this location. However, the spectrum measurements stored in the SRF files that are moved will no longer be displayed in Smaart.

Rational Acoustics Smaart enables audio technicians to analyze sound systems and diagnose problems. It is used in a variety of venues, such as stadiums, concert halls, and churches. The name of the program is an acronym, which stands for System Measurement Acoustic Analysis Real-time Tool (SMAART).

NOTE: SRF files were introduced with version 8 of Smaart and replaced REF files used by earlier versions of Smaart.

File Type 6 Steinberg Resource File
Developer by: Steinberg Media Technologies Category: Settings Files Format: Binary

Skin file used by Steinberg Cubase, a multi-track recording application; stores an archive of bitmap images as well as the locations of the bitmaps on the Cubase user interface; used for changing the appearance of both the application and associated plug-ins.

For Windows installations, SRF files are typically stored in the skins directory within the Cubase application installation directory. For Mac OS X, they are commonly found in the Contents/Resources directory of the application bundle. SRF files are saved in a proprietary format and often have the name skin.srf.

File Type 7 Samsung Smart TV Recording File
Developer by: Samsung Category: Encoded Files

An SRF file is a video recording file created by select Samsung Smart TVs. It contains content, such as a TV show or movie, recorded on the TV. SRF files are encrypted and can only be opened by the Samsung Smart TV that created them.

Samsung Smart TVs are used by some users as personal video recorders (PVRs) to record digital video to a USB flash drive. The TVs encrypt SRF files because of digital rights management (DRM) issues in order to protect against illegal sharing of recorded content from the TV.

How to fix problems with .SRF files

  1. You need to update the application that you normally use to open .SRF files. Only the latest version of the software supports the current .SRF file format
  2. You need to check the .SRF file for viruses. To do this, you need to scan it with a popular antivirus (Norton, Nod32, Kaspersky, Dr.Web, etc.)
