What is a .SIGNATURE file extension?

.SIGNATURE is e-Filing Digital Signature File

A SIGNATURE file contains a digital signature used by e-Filing, a website that allows residents of India to upload their tax returns. It stores unique encrypted data that identifies a user and the legitimacy of a tax return uploaded to the e-Filing site.

SIGNATURE files are created by DSC Management Utility (Digital Signature Certificate) to verify the identity of a user who is filing income taxes through e-Filing, the Income Tax Department in India. The utility is downloaded by the user, which generates a SIGNATURE file from an imported .PFX file or USB token imported by a user, then is uploaded to the e-Filing website with the tax return to verify the authenticity of the person.
