What is an .SEXY file?

.SEXY is PayDay ransomware affected files

File extension sexy seems to be used by a ransomware labeled as PayDay, which first appeared in December 2016 and seems to be based of the infamous off of Hidden-Tear.

When the ransomware does it's work, encrypts user's files and appends .sexy suffix to encrypted files and also creates ransom notes called !!!!!ATENÇÃO!!!!!.html.


How to open:

You need to wait for some decryptor to appear, if it ever appears. Otherwise restore from backup.

How to convert:

You can only convert the files once you have restored them using decryptor.

How to solve problems with SEXY files

  • Associate the SEXY file extension with the correct application. On :
    Windows: Right click on any SEXY file and then click "Open with" > "Choose another app". Now select another program and check the box "Always use this app to open *.SEXY files". Mac: Right click (or Ctrl-click) the SEXY file, then click "Open with" > "Other...". Then choose another program and check the "Always Open With" box. There tap the Options icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen to change the default apps.
