What are .SBN files and how to open them?

Can't open .SBN file? Are you wondering what it contains? On our site we will explain to you what this file is, what it is used for and what software opens the .SBN file.

What is a .SBN file extension?

.SBN file extension is created by LOCOSYS. .SBN has been classified as GIS Files. The format of .SBN file is Binary.

.SBN is GT-31 Binary Data File

Data file saved by a GT-31 or BGT-31 outdoor, waterproof GPS navigation device; contains position and speed data recorded while navigating with the device; used for logging travel paths and reviewing them later.

SBN files are saved onto the SD card in the GT-31 card. They are stored in a binary format.

NOTE: The SBN acronym stands for "SiRF binary logging (non-NMEA)." SiRF is a type of GPS device chip.

ESRI Spatial Binary File

Developer by: ESRI Category: GIS Files Format: Binary

File used by ESRI ArcGIS spatial mapping software; stores a binary representation of the shape information stored in a .SHP file; saved with a .SBX index file, which together comprise the shape index; contains information that speeds up spatial queries on shapefiles.

SBN files store shape information in many smaller rectangles. Each rectangle has its own properties that can be matched with spatial query criteria. The divided shape information and the binary format enable faster queries. However, since all shape data is stored in a separate SHP file, SBN files are not necessary for querying and parsing shape information.

NOTE: The SBN format is only used by ESRI software.

Cisco IP Phone Firmware File

Developer by: Cisco Systems Category: System Files Format: Binary

Firmware file, or "image" file, used by Cisco IP (Internet Protocol) phones; contains data that controls the operation of the phone; used during the IP phone firmware upgrading process; usually distributed with a few other files in a firmware package.

The data in SBN files usually complies with the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) standard. Often SBN files are used when upgrading an IP phone from the Skinny Call Control Protocol (SCCP) to the SIP protocol.

The firmware on Cisco IP phones can be managed using the Unified Communications Manager software, which was previously known as CallManager.

NOTE: Cisco IP phone SBN images are "signed" by Cisco so that the issuing source can be validated and the file cannot be easily tampered with before installing onto the phone. Unsigned images are distributed with the ".bin" extension.

How to fix problems with .SBN files

  1. You need to update the application that you normally use to open .SBN files. Only the latest version of the software supports the current .SBN file format
  2. You need to check the .SBN file for viruses. To do this, you need to scan it with a popular antivirus (Norton, Nod32, Kaspersky, Dr.Web, etc.)
