.RWS File Extension

An RWS file is a save game file created by RimWorld, a sci-fi colony sim game. It contains information about the state of the game, which allows games to be stopped then resumed. RWS files are saved in XML format.

RWS files are meant to be opened by RimWorld to resume a game. However, you can manually open and edit RWS files since the contents are saved in XML format. You can use a text editor, such as Notepad or TextEdit, to open RWS files.

RWS files are saved in the following locations:

• Windows - C:\Users\[username]\AppData\LocalLow\Ludeon Studios\RimWorld by Ludeon Studios\Saves\
• macOS - ~/Library/Application/Support/RimWorld/
• Linux - ~/.cpnfig/unity3d/Ludeon Studios/RimWorld by Ludeon Studios/Saves/

Game data file used by some games that utilize Criterion Software's RenderWare engine; often contains audio data although the binary format supports various kinds of game data including models and textures.

RenderWare games that use the ".rws" extension may use a file format specific to the particular game. Therefore, some RWS utilities, such as RWS2WAV, may be able to open a file type that other utilities cannot. Examples of games that use RWS files are Burnout 2: Point of Impact and Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon.

NOTE: The RWS extension is not used for all RenderWare games that include RenderWare stream data. For example, Grand Theft Auto games do not use the ".rws" extension, but use the .DFF and .TXD extensions instead.

Retina Wireless Scanner is used in corporate and security environments to detect unauthorized wireless devices. RWS files act as evidence logs from performed scans.
