What is a .REL file extension?

.REL file extension is created by Nintendo. .REL has been classified as Game Files.

.REL is Relocatable Module File

File created for Nintendo Wii games such as Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart; contains gameplay data such as stage models and characters referenced by the game; functions similarly to a .DLL file in the Windows OS.

Mario Kart holds only one REL fill named StaticR.rel. This file contains a lot of the data for Mario Kart and is located in the /rel directory.

REL files referenced by Super Smash Bros. Brawl are located in the "Modules" folder in the Super Smash Bros. Brawl directory. The Stage Switcher application opens and creates REL files, which enables you to switch stages. Each REL stage file has an identifying string of code that looks as follows: 38 A5 00 00 38 80 00 ID. The ID is actually two digits that signify the specific stage.

Common REL Filenames

StaticR.rel - Sole REL file referenced by Mario Kart, whereas Super Smash Bros. Brawl contains a REL file for each character and stage.
