.PUP is PlayStation 3 Update File
A PUP file is a file or patch used to update the PlayStation 3 (PS3) system software. It may include security patches, bug fixes, and extra operating system features. PUP files are typically named PS3UPDAT.PUP.
To update the PS3, go to the Settings menu and select "System Update." You may download the update file from the Internet or from connected storage media, such as a hard disk or Memory Stick. When the PUP file transferred to the PS3, it should be saved in the /PS3/UPDATE folder.
