.PRG File Extension

CAD file created by PC-DMIS, a metrology software used for programming coordinate-measuring machines (CMMs); saves a "part program," which contains instructions for moving the machine around a physical part in order to take its measurements.

PC-DIMS part programs allow designers the ability to store a program offline and run them in the 3D software environment before running them with an actual coordinate-measuring machine.

PRG files allow programs to be run within the Visual FoxPro environment. However, they are not Windows executable files. Therefore, you must first compile the program into a Windows executable in order to run it outside of Visual FoxPro.

NOTE: FoxPro, the predecessor to Visual FoxPro, is an xBase variant, so FoxPro PRG files may be similar to those found in other xBase programming environments, such as Clipper, dBFast, and older versions of dBASE.
