What is an .PGP file?

.PGP is PGP Security Key

Security key or digital signature file that verifies a user's identity; used for decrypting a file encrypted with Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) software; ensures that protected files can only be opened by authorized users.

File used by AutoCAD, an engineering design and documentation CAD application; contains external command definitions, which allow users to run custom commands in AutoCAD; can be used for running external programs and Windows commands through the AutoCAD interface; also used for defining aliases, or shortcuts, for commands with verbose syntax.

PGP files are stored by default in a file named acad.pgp. They are stored in plain text and contain commands in the following format:

command,[executable],flags[,[*]prompt[,return_code]]

Each command specifies the command alias, an executable to run, process flags, display prompt options, and a return code when the command finishes.

How to solve problems with PGP files

  • Associate the PGP file extension with the correct application. On :
    Windows: Right click on any PGP file and then click "Open with" > "Choose another app". Now select another program and check the box "Always use this app to open *.PGP files". Mac: Right click (or Ctrl-click) the PGP file, then click "Open with" > "Other...". Then choose another program and check the "Always Open With" box. Linux: Right click on the file, and select "Open with" and choose another program. iPhone: Tap the file. If you do not see an app to open the file, then tap Share "Share" and choose an app. Alternatively, save the file. Then open the Files app Files app. There long-press on the file, then release your finger. You will see a black menu bar. Then tap "Share" and select an app. Android: Tap the Settings icon on your smartphone, then tap on the Apps section. There tap the Options icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen to change the default apps.
  • Update your software that should actually open .PGP is PGP Security Key. Because only the current version supports the latest PGP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the PGP manufacturer website after an available .PGP is PGP Security Key update.
  • To make sure that your PGP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with antivirus software.
