What is an .NFI file?

.NFI is Netflix Information File

An NFI file is a data file created by the Netflix streaming app for Android and iOS. It contains information that describes a movie or show downloaded using the app. NFI files are saved to the device in a folder along with several other files, which include the .MANIFEST, .NFV, .NFA, and .NFS files.

The Netflix app allows Android and iOS users to download a wide variety of movies and shows for viewing when not connected to the Internet. Most titles on Netflix are available for download although some are excluded. If a title can be downloaded it has a download icon next to the name. You can search for downloadable titles by selecting "Available for Download" from the Netflix menu. Tap the download icon to begin the download then navigate to the "My Downloads" section of the app to access the downloaded movie or show.

If you want to delete a movie or show you downloaded to your Android device tap the menu icon in the app, select "My Downloads", tap the pencil edit icon in the upper right corner, and tap the red "X" icon to delete the title.

If you want to delete a movie or show you downloaded to your iOS device tap the menu icon in the app, select "My Downloads", tap "Edit", and select the red "X" icon to delete the title.

NOTE: In order to download Netflix content on your Android or iOS app you need to have Android 4.4.2 or later or iOS 8.0 or later. You also need the latest version of the Netflix app.

How to solve problems with NFI files

  • Associate the NFI file extension with the correct application. On :
    Windows: Right click on any NFI file and then click "Open with" > "Choose another app". Now select another program and check the box "Always use this app to open *.NFI files". Mac: Right click (or Ctrl-click) the NFI file, then click "Open with" > "Other...". Then choose another program and check the "Always Open With" box. Linux: Right click on the file, and select "Open with" and choose another program. iPhone: Tap the file. If you do not see an app to open the file, then tap Share "Share" and choose an app. Alternatively, save the file. Then open the Files app Files app. There long-press on the file, then release your finger. You will see a black menu bar. Then tap "Share" and select an app. Android: Tap the Settings icon on your smartphone, then tap on the Apps section. There tap the Options icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen to change the default apps.
  • Update your software that should actually open .NFI is Netflix Information File. Because only the current version supports the latest NFI file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Netflix manufacturer website after an available .NFI is Netflix Information File update.
  • To make sure that your NFI file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with antivirus software.
