Data file created by Printed Circuit Board (PCB) CAD tools such as Autodesk EAGLE and used by photoplotter machines; contains layout data for PCB masks.

A photoplotter is used to make photolithography masks, or photo plots, for PCBs. Photoplots are transparent plates that have maps printed on them to overlay onto PCBs.

NOTE: The Gerber format was originally developed by Gerber Systems but is now maintained by Ucamco.
