A GML file is a data output file created by Printed Circuit Board (PCB) CAD tools such as Autodesk EAGLE. It contains layout data for the layer that specifies the hole locations that need to be milled.

Gerber layer files, such as GML, are used by PCB manufacturing machines to create PCB boards. The GML file is an exported version of the PCB layout and is referenced to mill holes in the board.

NOTE: The Gerber format was originally developed by Gerber Systems but is now maintained by Ucamco.

How to Open .GML file on different platforms

Open .GML File on Windows

  • Right-click a .GML
  • Left-click "Open With" > "Choose another app"
  • Select the program that opens .GML file and Select check box "Always use this app to open .GML files" Press "Ok"

Open .GML File on Mac

  • Right-click (or Ctrl + Left-click) the .GML file
  • Click "Open With" > "Other.."
  • Then choose another program from the app list and press "Open"
  • Select check box "Turn on" for "Always open in app"
