.GBO is Gerber Bottom Overlay Data File

Data output file created by Printed Circuit Board (PCB) CAD tools such as Autodesk EAGLE and used by PCB manufacturing machines to designate layouts of electrical connections; contains layout data for bottom silk screen layers; written in RS-274X, which is the most common and contemporary Gerber format.

The GBO file acts similar to a .PDF file. It is an exported version of the PCB layout and is meant to be viewed and referenced but not edited.

NOTE: The Gerber format was originally developed by Gerber Systems but is now maintained by Ucamco.

How to Open .GBO file on different platforms

Open .GBO File on Windows

  • Right-click a .GBO
  • Left-click "Open With" > "Choose another app"
  • Select the program that opens .GBO file and Select check box "Always use this app to open .GBO files" Press "Ok"

Open .GBO File on Mac

  • Right-click (or Ctrl + Left-click) the .GBO file
  • Click "Open With" > "Other.."
  • Then choose another program from the app list and press "Open"
  • Select check box "Turn on" for "Always open in app"
