.GAL is GenePix Array List File

Biological data file created in the GenePix Array List (GAL) format; contains the names and locations (sector, row, and column) of "features" on a on a microarray slide; used for capturing flourescent spots on microarrays in biological experiments and can be used for quantitative analysis.

GAL files use the tab-delimited, plain text format specified in the Axon Text Format (.ATF files). They are often generated from Microsoft Excel spreadsheets by exporting the spreadsheet to a tab-delimited text file and then renaming the file extension to ".gal."

How to Open .GAL file on different platforms

Open .GAL File on Windows

  • Right-click a .GAL
  • Left-click "Open With" > "Choose another app"
  • Select the program that opens .GAL file and Select check box "Always use this app to open .GAL files" Press "Ok"

  • Right-click (or Ctrl + Left-click) the .GAL file
  • Click "Open With" > "Other.."
  • Then choose another program from the app list and press "Open"
  • Select check box "Turn on" for "Always open in app"
