Data file used by Sony PlayStation systems, including PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Portable (PSP); contains encrypted game or system data, such as a theme or a game add-on; typically seen within downloaded packages from the Sony PlayStation Network (PSN) online store.

Sony uses EDAT files to apply Digital Rights Management (DRM) protection to game and system data. The ".edat" extension is typically added to the existing file extension. For example, a .P3T theme file may use the ".p3t.edat" extension.

Due to the encryption on EDAT files, they can only be opened by the Sony PSP. However, they still may be transferred to a computer by connecting the PSP to a computer via a USB connection.
