.DT2 is Windows Live Messenger Emoticon Image File

Image file used by Windows Live Messenger, a program used for online chatting; contains an emoticon image in .GIF or .PNG format; used for inserting emoticons into online chat windows; may be renamed with a ".gif" or ".png" extension and opened in an image viewer.

In Windows XP, DT2 files typically are stored in the following user subdirectory:"\Application Data\Microsoft\Messenger\[LiveID]\ObjectStore\CustomEmoticons".

In Windows Vista, they typically are stored in the following user subdirectory:"\AppData\Microsoft\Messenger\[LiveID]\ObjectStore\CustomEmoticons".

DT2 files are used in combination with .ID2 files to enable the use of emoticons in Windows Live Messenger.

Digital Terrain Elevation Data (DTED) Level 2 file used by GIS programs for displaying terrain elevation data; contains a uniformly-spaced grid of elevation points; used commonly in military systems that require terrain slope, elevation, and surface contour information.

DTED Level 0 .DT0 and Level 1 .DT1 files also capture terrain elevation data. Level 2 files have the highest resolution data, and Level 0 files have the lowest resolution. Level 2 data contain spacing of one arc second, or approximately 30 meters.
