What is an .DOWNLOADHOST file?

.DOWNLOADHOST is MSN Download Settings File

Stores file download settings for MSN software; included with the MSN installation and required for downloading files and checking e-mail; typically named "MSN#.downloadhost."

If the Downloadhost file becomes corrupt or is missing, the MSN software may display a "Downloadhost File" error. To recover the Downloadhost file, first select "Run..." from the Windows Start menu. Then type the following in the text box:

regsvr32 c:\progra~1\msn\msncorefiles\msnmetal.dll

This should restore the Downloadhost file and allow MSN to download files and e-mail messages again.

How to solve problems with DOWNLOADHOST files

  • Associate the DOWNLOADHOST file extension with the correct application. On :
    Windows: Right click on any DOWNLOADHOST file and then click "Open with" > "Choose another app". Now select another program and check the box "Always use this app to open *.DOWNLOADHOST files". There tap the Options icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen to change the default apps.
  • Update your software that should actually open .DOWNLOADHOST is MSN Download Settings File. Because only the current version supports the latest DOWNLOADHOST file format.
