What is an .CMO file?


A CMO file is a BIOS file used by ASUS computers running WIndows. It contains a BIOS profile, which includes saved settings and instructions to load computer hardware, such as whether fast boot is enabled or disabled and the boot performance mode.

CMO files are only used on Windows-based computers and not on Mac computers. They are typically saved on a USB device, which can be loaded on to a computer.To load a CMO file on a computer, follow these instructions:

  • Insert the USB storage device storing the CMO file
  • Turn on the system
  • Enter BIOS setup program
  • Select "Tools" and choose "Load from File"
  • Choose the drive with the BIOS profile you want and click "Enter"
  • NOTE: BIOS stands for "Basic Input/Output System" and is a type of firmware used by a computer's microprocessor to boot the computer system when it is turned on.

    How to solve problems with CMO files

    • Associate the CMO file extension with the correct application. On :
      Windows: Right click on any CMO file and then click "Open with" > "Choose another app". Now select another program and check the box "Always use this app to open *.CMO files". Mac: Right click (or Ctrl-click) the CMO file, then click "Open with" > "Other...". Then choose another program and check the "Always Open With" box. Linux: Right click on the file, and select "Open with" and choose another program. iPhone: Tap the file. If you do not see an app to open the file, then tap Share "Share" and choose an app. Alternatively, save the file. Then open the Files app Files app. There long-press on the file, then release your finger. You will see a black menu bar. Then tap "Share" and select an app. Android: Tap the Settings icon on your smartphone, then tap on the Apps section. There tap the Options icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen to change the default apps.
    • Update your software that should actually open .CMO is ASUS BIOS File. Because only the current version supports the latest CMO file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the ASUS manufacturer website after an available .CMO is ASUS BIOS File update.
    • To make sure that your CMO file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with antivirus software.
