What is an .CIS file?

.CIS is CheckInbox Settings File

A CIS file is a settings file created by CheckInbox, a Windows program that enables a user to organize and stay current with new emails. It contains settings for email accounts added in the program, which includes the email address, POP3 server name, user name, and password.

CIS files are created when a user backups account settings in CheckInbox. To create a backup, select Help → Backup Account Settings.... To open a CIS file, select Help → Restore Account Settings....

CheckInbox is a simple utility for streamlining multiple email accounts. You can add multiple POP3 email accounts and the program immediately notifies you when you receive an email.

How to solve problems with CIS files

  • Associate the CIS file extension with the correct application. On :
    Windows: Right click on any CIS file and then click "Open with" > "Choose another app". Now select another program and check the box "Always use this app to open *.CIS files". Mac: Right click (or Ctrl-click) the CIS file, then click "Open with" > "Other...". Then choose another program and check the "Always Open With" box. Linux: Right click on the file, and select "Open with" and choose another program. iPhone: Tap the file. If you do not see an app to open the file, then tap Share "Share" and choose an app. Alternatively, save the file. Then open the Files app Files app. There long-press on the file, then release your finger. You will see a black menu bar. Then tap "Share" and select an app. Android: Tap the Settings icon on your smartphone, then tap on the Apps section. There tap the Options icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen to change the default apps.
  • Update your software that should actually open .CIS is CheckInbox Settings File. Because only the current version supports the latest CIS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the VicTech Software manufacturer website after an available .CIS is CheckInbox Settings File update.
