Proprietary subtitles format created by Cavena, a company that provides subtitling transmission and postproduction solutions; saves subtitle text using a timeline so that the closed captions are played back at the right time during video playback or broadcast.

CIP files can be converted to the EBU .STL format using a Cavena software product called Toolbox.

NOTE: Cavena also has another proprietary subtitles format that uses the .890 extension.
