What is an .CDOC file?

.CDOC is Encrypted DigiDoc File

A CDOC file is an encrypted digital document (DigiDoc) created with qDigiDoc, an open source software used to authenticate Estonian and Finnish government issued ID cards and signed documents. It contains a data file (an .XML, .DOC, .XLS, .PDF, .RTF, etc.) encrypted with the AES-128 encryption algorithm, an encrypted key to decrypt the data file, recipient certificate, and other metadata.

The CDOC file is save in the ENCDOC-XML format. It is developed by Riigi Infosüsteemi Amet (RIA), which is the Information System Authority of Estonia. CDOC is one of three digital signature and cryptographic files in the DigiDoc family, along with the .DDOC and .BDOC files.

NOTE: The qDigiDoc software can be used to digitally sign documents using an employee's ID card or mobile ID and can open, save, and verify documents with digital signatures. The software is open source and can be downloaded for free through the links below.

A CDOC file is a document created by Clicker, a literacy tool used by teachers to create curriculum resources tailored to student needs. It may contain text, images, and recorded voice notes.

The CDOC document is the primary file used by Clicker word processor. The program offers several writing features such as the ability to hear text spoken in realistic voices, receive word predictions based on what is typed, receive spelling suggestions that can be illustrated and spoken, and record initial thoughts and ideas before writing.

How to solve problems with CDOC files

  • Associate the CDOC file extension with the correct application. On :
    Windows: Right click on any CDOC file and then click "Open with" > "Choose another app". Now select another program and check the box "Always use this app to open *.CDOC files". Mac: Right click (or Ctrl-click) the CDOC file, then click "Open with" > "Other...". Then choose another program and check the "Always Open With" box. Linux: Right click on the file, and select "Open with" and choose another program. iPhone: Tap the file. If you do not see an app to open the file, then tap Share "Share" and choose an app. Alternatively, save the file. Then open the Files app Files app. There long-press on the file, then release your finger. You will see a black menu bar. Then tap "Share" and select an app. Android: Tap the Settings icon on your smartphone, then tap on the Apps section. There tap the Options icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen to change the default apps.
  • Update your software that should actually open .CDOC is Encrypted DigiDoc File. Because only the current version supports the latest CDOC file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the RIA manufacturer website after an available .CDOC is Encrypted DigiDoc File update.
  • To make sure that your CDOC file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with antivirus software.
