.ASV is Finale Auto-save File

File created by Finale, a music note creation application for playing instruments, vocals, etc.; replaced by the .ASVX file, which was released in Finale 2014; contains backup data for .MUS files similarly to .BAK files; created when MUS files are auto-saved by Finale.

To create a ASV file:

  • You must first enable the backup creation option.
  • Select Finale [version] → Preferences....
  • Select "Save and Print" in the list on the left of the "Preferences" window, check the "Auto Save File(s) Every __ Minutes" checkbox, fill in the amount of minutes, and click OK.
  • Now when your MUS files are auto-saved, a corresponding ASV file will automatically be created.
