What is an .ASV file?

.ASV is Finale Auto-save File

File created by Finale, a music note creation application for playing instruments, vocals, etc.; replaced by the .ASVX file, which was released in Finale 2014; contains backup data for .MUS files similarly to .BAK files; created when MUS files are auto-saved by Finale.

To create a ASV file:

  • You must first enable the backup creation option.
  • Select Finale [version] → Preferences....
  • Select "Save and Print" in the list on the left of the "Preferences" window, check the "Auto Save File(s) Every __ Minutes" checkbox, fill in the amount of minutes, and click OK.
  • Now when your MUS files are auto-saved, a corresponding ASV file will automatically be created.

    Color settings file used by Adobe Photoshop, a program used to create and edit raster graphics; contains color adjustment settings for cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (CMYK) values of different colors, which are on a scale from -100% to +100%); also contains the selective color method, which is either relative or absolute; used for saving color adjustment presets that can be applied to multiple images.

    The Selective Color window can be accessed in Photoshop by selecting Image → Adjustments → Selective Color....

    How to solve problems with ASV files

    • Associate the ASV file extension with the correct application. On :
      Windows: Right click on any ASV file and then click "Open with" > "Choose another app". Now select another program and check the box "Always use this app to open *.ASV files". Mac: Right click (or Ctrl-click) the ASV file, then click "Open with" > "Other...". Then choose another program and check the "Always Open With" box. Linux: Right click on the file, and select "Open with" and choose another program. iPhone: Tap the file. If you do not see an app to open the file, then tap Share "Share" and choose an app. Alternatively, save the file. Then open the Files app Files app. There long-press on the file, then release your finger. You will see a black menu bar. Then tap "Share" and select an app. Android: Tap the Settings icon on your smartphone, then tap on the Apps section. There tap the Options icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen to change the default apps.
    • Update your software that should actually open .ASV is Finale Auto-save File. Because only the current version supports the latest ASV file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the MakeMusic manufacturer website after an available .ASV is Finale Auto-save File update.
    • To make sure that your ASV file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with antivirus software.
