What is an .5VW file?

.5VW is 5View Packet Capture File

A 5VW file is a data file saved in the Accellent 5Views Packet (5VW) format. It contains network packet data created during a live network capture. 5VW files are used for "packet sniffing" and analyzing data network characteristics.

5VW files are typically created by Wireshark (formerly Ethereal), a free program used for network analysis. Wireshark is available for Mac, Windows, and Linux platforms. Professors and students often use the software for studying data communications.

NOTE: Accellent was acquired by InfoVista in 2007.
